United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is:

  • To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ
  • To develop a creative supportive fellowship and
  • To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The Purpose is adopted by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church as the official mission statement of United Methodist Women. Out of the Purpose are four mission foci:

  • To be a community of women
  • To know God
  • To develop a creative and supportive fellowship
  • To expand concepts of mission

The La Vernia United Methodist Women, is open to all women.  Please fell free to attend out monthly meetings on the 1st Monday of the Month at 7:00 pm in the family life building.

This is the overall purpose of UMW and here are a few things that our local UMW unit is sponsoring and a few things that are close to our heart; annual bazaar that provides most of our funding to support our programs all during the year; we do a reading program and are starting a library for use by the women of the church; this  year we have started a scholarship program and are offering 2 $500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors; style show and dinner for all women in May; our first ever all women’s service on mothers day; every year we take a large group of women (members and non members) to the Women of Faith conference; this year we are starting to help the campus ministry program for San Antonio college by providing lunch twice a year to the campus ministry program for students attending that program at San Antonio college; we are supporting a missionary family this year; we also donate to various ministries of the church all during the year; we are publishing a cookbook this year also.
